No matter how strong your willpower is, Halloween can tempt everyone. If you are undergoing Invisalign® treatment, now is the perfect time for a quick reminder of the rules for this special day of the year. The last thing you want to do is ghost your treatment on October 31 and suffer Invisalign® problems and oral health complications later.
1. Remove Your Trays Before You Eat Candy
You might only be digging into one snack-sized piece of candy, but that one small sweet can wreak a world of havoc if you don’t take your trays out first. If you bite down with your aligners in place, you could crack the trays, derailing the progress of your treatment. Just remember to remove your trays before you eat anything – meals or snacks – and you won’t have to worry about damaging the trays, getting food stuck in between your teeth and Invisalign®, or risking cavities.
2. Only Drink Water with Invisalign® in Place
If you live in a festive neighborhood or are invited to a Halloween party, you’ll have a host of beverages to choose from. Whether you’re sipping on soda, wine, coffee, or hot chocolate, the only thing it’s fine to drink with your trays in place is water. Any other liquid could stain your trays. Hot beverages could warp them.
3. Double Down at Mealtime
You still must wear your Invisalign® trays 20 to 22 hours on Halloween, and you know you’re going to want to enjoy some treats, so plan your day carefully. Choose as many sweets as you want for dessert after your lunch or dinner. Then when you’re done eating you can brush and floss as usual and put your clean trays back in over your clean teeth. You will be far less tempted to munch on any sweets later.
4. Carry Your Invisalign® Case
As an Invisalign® wearer, you know it’s important to always have your case handy. Halloween is no different. In fact, it’s even more important to have these slim containers at the ready. Wear a fanny pack under your cape, incorporate a bag into your costume, or keep them in your pocket. You don’t want to misplace your customized trays or stick them in a linty pocket.
5. Choose Your Costume Wisely
If you have your heart set on being a vampire this year with a sweet set of fangs, perhaps postpone this costume until next Halloween, when your Invisalign® treatment will likely be complete. You can’t put anything on over your trays, but they certainly won’t get in the way of any costume you’re wearing because they’re slim, snug, clear, and stay out of the picture.
Invisalign® Is a Halloween Treat
Invisalign® wearers can have more fun than anyone on Halloween. You are undergoing treatment to straighten your teeth, but you’re not stuck with brackets and wires. That means you can dig into all your favorite sweets and treats without worrying about damaging the hardware on your teeth. Simply follow your normal daily rules of wearing Invisalign®.
